Birth certificate in Iran

The birth certificate is one of the identity documents in Iran that the country’s civil registration organization is required to issue to every Iranian citizen. The information that comes in the birth certificate of each person is:

• Name and surname and gender
• Scanned photo
• Id
• National Code
• Date of birth: solar and lunar day, month and year
• Place of birth: city, district, village
• Names of parents
• Number of birth certificate or national card of parents
• Place of birth of parents
• Special place for registration of marriage and divorce and wife’s profile
• Names of children and their details
• Death of the birth certificate holder
• Information about elections and voting

Imperial birth certificate

Before 1357, all birth certificates in Iran were printed and issued with the Pahlavi imperial coat of arms. After the revolution of 1357 AH and the change of the Iranian government system to the Islamic Republic, all Iranian citizens were required to obtain a new birth certificate. But there are still people who live outside of Iran and have not succeeded in receiving a new Islamic birth certificate.

Changing birth certificate in MIKHAK system

All Iranian citizens can exchange their old imperial or Islamic birth certificates. This work is done using the MIKHAK system and through the Office of the Protection of Iran’s Interests in Washington.

Necessary documents

• Completing the application form (for people who have their old birth certificate)
• Completing the application form and reporting the loss of birth certificate (for people who have lost their old birth certificate)
• Completion of the questionnaire to receive the service of registered documents
• If you have a picture of the birth certificates of your father, mother, spouse or children
• In case of military service or exemption, a picture of the end of service or exemption card
• At least two of the following documents:
• A- Iranian passport
• B- Conscript service termination card
• C- Educational qualifications of an Iranian photographer
• D. Driver’s license
• E- Other documents of Iranian photographer
• Photo ID or US passport image
• Four pieces of new 4×3 full-face photos (from the front), non-immediate and with a white background, with the owner’s profile written on the back, and photos of women with Islamic hijab.
• Deposit the fee to the relevant account and provide the original receipt
